Department of Planning and Development Planning
The city of Lakewood's Department of Planning and Development coordinates long-range planning, zoning, and economic development for the city, in addition to administering the federal Community Development Block Grant Funds awarded to Lakewood by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Applications for the Lakewood Planning Commission can now be completed online. ALTHOUGH THE PLANNING AND BUILDING DEPARTMENT WORK CLOSELY, THEY ARE SEPARATE DEPARTMENTS, AND WILL REQUIRE SEPARATE APPLICATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS.

The City’s Commercial Property Revitalization Program provides rebates to businesses and property owners completing storefront improvements along the City’s commercial corridors (specifically Detroit Avenue, Madison Avenue, and Berea Rd). The city of Lakewood offers rehab assistance to eligible Lakewood property owners. To receive assistance you must either be an income eligible owner occupant of a 1, 2 or 3 family home or a landlord with income eligible tenant households.
