Department of Planning and Development Planning

The city of Lakewood's Department of Planning and Development coordinates long-range planning, zoning, and economic development for the city, in addition to administering the federal Community Development Block Grant Funds awarded to Lakewood by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Applications for the Lakewood Planning Commission can now be completed online.  ALTHOUGH THE PLANNING AND BUILDING DEPARTMENT WORK CLOSELY, THEY ARE SEPERATE DEPARTMENTS, AND WILL REQUIRE SEPERATE APPLICATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS.

The Planning Commission reviews requests for lot considerations, lot splits, major and minor subdivisions, determination of similar and conditional use. Submit an application for the Planning Commission.

Apply to Boards of Zoning Appeals

The Board of Zoning Appeals reviews requests for area variances such as maximum lot coverage, height and setback requirements for primary structures and accessory structures.

The Architectural Board of Review (ABR) considers requests for all new construction and construction which alters exterior elevations to protect the value, appearance, and use of property on which buildings are constructed or altered.

Apply to the Small Business Job Retention Program

The City of Lakewood's Small Business Job Retention Program provides rent and payroll relief for small businesses with fifty or fewer employees that have experienced a reduction in revenue as a result of the current public health emergency. Businesses must commit to retaining at least one (1) full time equivalent position (FTE) with annualized earnings of $42,600 or less. Your business must be located in the City of Lakewood. Apply to the Commercial Property Revitalization Program

The City’s Commercial Property Revitalization Program provides rebates to businesses and property owners completing storefront improvements along the City’s commercial corridors (specifically Detroit Avenue, Madison Avenue, and Berea Rd). To enter an application, you will be directed to set up a user account. Please retain your account log in and password for future access and to track your application.
When entering your application choose “Storefront Renovation Program and Rebate” if your project involves a comprehensive façade improvement. Choose “Storefront Renovation Program and Façade Improvement” for minor façade improvements like landscaping and signage Make sure to review the detailed program information available on the City’s website at http://www.onelakewood.com/commercial-development/. Financial Assistance for Residential Property Owners (216) 529-4663
