For Building Permits, Sign Permit and Public Works Utility Permits:
- Signed Contractor Proposal and Estimate; Plat of Survey with area of work marked;
- Plans (1 File), Drawings (1 File), Pictures (1 File), Architecture Plans (1 File) or Structural Letters.
For Zoning Request Applications or Plat Applications:
- Affidavit of Ownership (Notarized); Proof of Ownership; Paid Current Tax Bill Receipt; Document indicating intent to buy/lease; Responses to applicable standards; Current Plat; Plans; Legal Description (as a Microsoft Word File).
Once reviewed, you will be notified about approval or any additional payment required.

1. A copy of your current ILLINOIS liquor license renewal;
2. A copy of your Current Lease;
3. Current Dram Shop and/or host liablitiy insurance;
4. The signed/notarized copy of the last page of the
renewal application you received in the mail

FAQ
Here are some permit types that can be misleading:
Permit Sub-type definitions:
FLATWORK - Covers driveways, patios, walks, expanding driveways, installing a patio for the first time; Regardless of material being used.
FLOOD CONTROL - Work that will help prevent or slow flooding. Back water valves, Driveway trough drains, garage sump pumps.
EV Car Charger - This Sub Type is used for Electric Vehicle Car Chargers and is probably at the end of the sub type list.
DRAINAGE - Installing a drywell, burying downspouts and/or a sump pump's discharges, or installing a swale.
INTERIOR REMODEL - Covers Updating Kitchen & Bathrooms, updating the whole interior of the house, or use when updating multiple rooms like basement & bathroom etc…
POOL INSTALL - Use for the seasonal/removable pools & for permanently installed above ground & in-ground pools.
Here are some additional common questions we receive:
- Q: How long does it take to review my permit?
A: Depends on the permit type: Additions/New Single-Family Homes/Decks/Basement remodels/Kitchen remodels/Bathroom remodel/Interior remodels/Pergolas/Gazebos/Sheds that are stick built & not a kit/detached garages all take about 10 business days for their plan review.
- Q: I have to submit revisions will my review time be less?
A:Unfortunately, no. Even revisions have a 10-business day re-review time.
- Q: I’m just removing & replacing my driveway/patio/sidewalk same size why do I need a permit?
A: We have no idea how wide your existing driveway/patio/sidewalk is. There is a code that only restricts the maximum allowed size of these structures as well as lot coverage. Every property must have so much green space.
- Q: I need to replace the handrails on my front porch. Do I need a permit?
A: Yes. There is a code restricting the spacing between the spindles, spacing between the bottom of rail and steps, along with more items. Stop by to pick up our handout on handrails.
- Q: What time does your office open?
A: Building Department is open from 7:30am-5pm M-F; however, we only issue permit until 4pm M-F
